There appears to be a rising hypocrisy among the terminally online, where many are unwilling to be on the consuming end of LLM artifacts (programs, images, sounds) but do not mind producing them. They will call out slop, but go on to make their own. They’ll be skeptical of LLM-produced software but vibe-code whole projects and host them on their GitHub. It’s the acknowledgement of a risk while at the same time dispensing that risk to others.

Normally it would be construed as harm reduction: “I don’t know if they’ve reviewed their code, so it’s riskier,” but they themselves probably review little of their LLM-produced code. When it comes to images or sounds, it’s an excuse like “I actually understand music and put effort into prompting the robot,” but when given by others it is always interminable, mass-produced prolefeed. It’s a subtle form of vanity: LLMs let me build an impressive project, which I want to show to others, but when others come to me with their impressive project I don’t want to hear about it. It’s actually not as impressive. I’m the different one with the different thing to show. It’s funny, but hypocritical.
